Single Touch Payroll

The faster, better way for your clients to report payroll.

Payroll solutions that make STP simple for all of your clients

With two new solutions for clients with 1-4 employees, we’ve got STP covered for even your smallest clients.

What is Single Touch Payroll?

In a nutshell, it's a big timesaver for your clients. Single Touch Payroll (STP) is a new, simpler way for your clients to report their employees’ payroll information to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Single Touch Payroll has been the law since 1st July 2019, so it's necessary for everyone. But don't worry, we're here to make it as easy as possible, using the payroll feature which already exists in MYOB's accounting software.

With STP, employers no longer need to complete payments summaries and group certificates at the end of the financial year. That's now taken care of every time your clients pay their employees. Also, employees can access their information at any time through myGov.

Let's get started!

If you process payroll on behalf of your clients, you can set yourself up to report payroll information for their business. Complete the readiness check, connect to the ATO and start reporting. If your client wants to process their own pay run, they'll need to register themselves for STP before starting the pay run.

Clients can register their software ID with the ATO during their setup, through the ATO’s Access Manager or by phoning the ATO. If your client processes a pay run but hadn’t registered their own business for STP, their reports won’t be accepted by the ATO.

If your clients are already subscribed to an MYOB product with payroll, they can start reporting now. Here's how!

My client is using MYOB AccountRight Classic Toggle Section

MYOB AccountRight Classic users should upgrade to the latest version of AccountRight to be STP compliant. The good news is that clients who move to the latest version of AccountRight can continue to work offline or can move fully online. While Single Touch Payroll is supported in AccountRight 2019.2 (or later versions) for both cloud and desktop modes, we recommend taking advantage of the cloud services available in online mode (invoice tracking, smart bills, online payments, bill attachment, multi-user access and the ability to work from multiple locations).

However, the ATO has granted a Single Touch Payroll deferral extension for AccountRight Classic (v19 or lower) users who are using either M-Powered Payments or multi-currency (those affected by the API limitations to write to foreign currencies). This extension is until 31 December 2019^ and will give these users more time to upgrade as these features are not yet available. If you are impacted by this deferral, there is nothing you need to except to take note of the new extension deadline for your current MYOB deferral number.

M-Powered Payment users can upgrade to the online version of AccountRight and start reporting Single Touch Payroll at any time, however you will need to process payroll manually by creating an ABA file until we finalise our new payment solution.
